visual art. performance. education. therapy.
Exploring performing and visual arts from a young age, living awkwardly in an atypical body, finding my way to martial arts at 15 was an instinctual step towards understanding of and ease within my body. Studying visual art, philosophy/spirituality and somatics at Hampshire College, I was introduced to the umbrella of bodymind movement forms that remain core to my practice today. Through the 90's my visual work was primarily representational landscape/architecture. Working to locate and ground myself physically, plein air painting was a permitted, albeit roundabout, means of connecting to the land. Attending massage school in 1999, a leap towards embodiment and dramatic change of terrain, I began a series of self portraits inspired by the alphabet which became "In My Own Language". From 2015 to 2019 I trained in somatic based expressive arts at Tamalpa Institute, Kentfield, California, completing the project in 2017 while continuing to navigate a highly uncertain breast cancer prognosis. Returning east post Covid 2021, I am leaning into performance and continuing work on "Finding The Ocean" a 365 found object jewelry journal project. I offer expressive arts and somatic therapy and education to individuals and groups.
