Somatics and Expressive Arts

I assist individuals and groups who are:
-in processes of preparation, change, integration, development
-seeking personal growth, health improvement, living with injury, disease, conflict
-interested in including somatics and/or expressive arts in their existing practice/profession
By guiding them in:
-Exploring personal embodiment and innate creativity
-Discovering and applying individualized tools and resources
-Navigating self and environments with increased awareness and ease

My work is informed by lifelong training and practice in massage therapy, bodywork, anatomy and physiology, martial arts, chi gong, the discipline of authentic movement, ecosomatics, visual art, writing and postmodern dance including contact improvisation, mixed ability, Halprin work and butoh. Tailored to the needs of the individual or group, I choose frameworks and create a container to guide experience and reflection.

more about my approach:
Work can focus on movement training through one or more somatic modalities and/or move into expressive arts work. Expressive arts by definition includes the action of switching modalities. I typically include drawing, writing, movement, voice, creative dialogue and structures of gently held "performance/presentation/sharing"- developing skills of witnessing self and others; of seeing and being seen.
Inter-modal creative processes are gaining attention as effective tools for improving neuroplasticity; our brain's ability to reorganize and rewire its neural connections, enabling it to adapt and function in new ways.

Absolutely no prior arts or movement training is required. Those with and without arts experience discover benefits and find growth edges in this work.
The intent of creative work produced and shared in sessions is to be purely of service to the individual and/or group inquiry and process, not to produce a "skilled" "finished" art work or "product".
Sessions can be specifically designed with intent of assisting in all aspects of producing finished works, projects and performance from generating new material and overcoming "creative blocks" to embodied performance and presentation techniques.
